The Orthodontic Clinic at USN’s College of Dental Medicine was featured during the 11 p.m. newscast on KINC-TV (Univision) in Las Vegas on Friday, Sept. 4. Congratulations to the Orthodontic residents and interns for their outstanding job in putting this news segment together with reporter Arlene Rivera to showcase clinic’s outstanding, low-cost orthodontic services to the Las Vegas Valley’s large Hispanic community.
The article spotlights the college’s successful placement of clinical pharmacy faculty into all of the major hospital systems in the Las Vegas Valley, significantly raising the level of pharmacy practice in the Valley and in turn, providing better patient care.
USN’s College of Nursing today announced that it will begin offering its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at its Henderson campus with classes commencing each winter. This is in addition to its classes beginning in August of each year. The college is now accepting applications for January 2010.
“The addition of a winter start gives many potential students that didn’t quite meet the admissions requirements in August the opportunity to complete program prerequisites and start the New Year off in pursuit of their career goals,” said Dr. Mable Smith, dean of USN’s College of Nursing.
Launched in 2006 at USN’s campus located at 11 Sunset Way, the BSN program is taught using the university’s innovative block curriculum. This format allows students to focus on one subject at a time to fully master the skills they are acquiring in both the classroom and clinical setting. The block curriculum, combined with a year-round academic schedule, enables students to earn the BSN in just 18 months.
The block curriculum is also designed to maximize student competency. According to Dr. Smith, during the period of January to June 2009 the college’s BSN graduates achieved an overall pass rate of 82.22 percent on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). For the quarter of April through June, the pass rate was 84.09 and during March alone, immediately following the college’s third graduation, 41 graduates took the exam and achieved an impressive 87.80 percent pass rate.
